Liddiard Gallery
We have a beautiful space, (the original church building) that lends itself, spatially and acoustically, to artistic performance. Thus began the dream to offer the community of Oakleigh, and its surrounding district, a venue where artistic endeavours could be presented, be they visual or audio. In the time since this space was restored and opened as a Gallery (2007), we have had:
• Two ‘one man shows’ of paintings, mixed media pieces, as well as drawings.
• One Easter show of 16 paintings - ‘stations of the cross’ entitled “In the footsteps of Jesus’, with poems and stories for reflection and meditation.
• Two classical piano concerts, the first in 2007, offering the music of composers up to 1858, in line with our 150th celebrations, with a further concert in 2008, offering the music of composers since 1858, through to the present day. This second concert was dedicated to raising money for one of our parishioners, James Pike, three years old, who has severe cerebral palsy, and who is in need of much equipment to assist him in living anything like a normal life.
As Liddard Gallery is an arm of Oakleigh Anglican Church, exhibitions and performances are selected on the basis of the quality of the work, as well as their sensitivity towards Christian values and ethics. Interested in having an exhibition or a performance? Contact us.
As well as the Gallery being a place for artistic endeavour, it also offers a beautiful space for small but formal gatherings such as Wedding Receptions and other special occasions.
